i74: Tax on non-recyclable food packaging

0 Yes, alternative choice0 Neutral1 No6 Yes, first choice

All retailers should pay a tax on sales of food items that come in packaging that cannot be recycled by our local council recycling system (green bins).

This would encourage retailers to use less non-recyclable packaging.

If the costs were passed on to consumers it would still have the same effect. The retailers that use recyclable packaging will have lower prices and should benefit from better sales compared to competitors.

We can't expect retailers to do the right thing and sell only recyclable products. We must give them an incentive to do so. There is a monopoly of non-recyclable products being sold, and there are never recyclable options available, this tax would hopefully fix this issue.

While I like the idea, this is not something that councils can implement, this needs to be implemented by the national government.
