Competing?

I like the idea, but is it really competing with the original initiative or is it a rather independent initiative? Or should both initiatives been combined, so like all abandoned and public spaces should be assessed for their suitability to expand green spaces in the city?

Not competing, co-existing

We formed Gardens and Open Spaces Hull to lobby Hull City Council to facilitate the transformation of unused or underused spaces into productive places by the community for the community. The name of the group reflects the fact that we see protecting nature/biodiversity and growing food as equally important. In fact, you can't grow food without pollinators and other bugs and beasties! So, we don't see these two strands as competing at all - they are symbiotic.
