i27: Get serious about reallocating road space to active travel and public transport
The experience of moving through Leeds in a car vs on foot or bike is astounding. In a car you have the red carpet laid out for you, whereas pedestrians and cyclists are stuck squeezing past each other, choking on exhaust fumes, shouting over engine noise, and trying not to get run over. Relaunching the clean air zone plan, massively expanding walking and cycling infrastructure, and reducing places where cars can drive and park, would not only make the city more pleasant and liveable, but would also allow buses to run more reliably by reducing car traffic. This is a no brainer and we should not be cowed by a few angry red-faced men attacking LTNs into giving up on this necessary change.
